Advance bookings for “Stree 2” are surging, outpacing Akshay Kumar’s “Khel Khel Mein,” as excitement builds for the film starring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor.
In a striking turn of events for this Independence Day’s cinematic offerings, Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor’s highly anticipated film, Stree 2, has surged ahead in advance ticket sales, eclipsing its Bollywood counterparts. Within a mere 48 hours of the opening of advance bookings, the film has amassed over 100,000 ticket sales, setting an impressive early pace for its theatrical debut.
As reported by Sacnilk, Stree 2 has recorded a staggering 124,402 advance bookings for its opening day, raking in Rs 4.09 crore in pre-sale revenue. The film’s promotional campaign, launched on Saturday by the producers, has certainly struck a chord with audiences. Stree 2 is slated for release on August 14, coinciding with Independence Day, and will feature evening screenings commencing at 9:30 p.m., as per Maddock Films’ announcement on their social media platforms.
In stark contrast, the advance bookings for Akshay Kumar’s latest venture, Khel Khel Mein, appear languid, with a modest 2,042 tickets sold for its first day, translating to a revenue of Rs 8.74 lakh. This lackluster performance is another setback for Kumar, who has been grappling with a series of underwhelming box office results, including his recent film, Sarfira.
John Abraham’s Vedaa has fared slightly better, securing 5,969 ticket sales and generating Rs 18.07 lakh in advance revenue. Nonetheless, it remains overshadowed by Stree 2’s robust early performance.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh has expressed buoyant optimism for Stree 2, stating, “ADVANCE BOOKING UPDATE: ‘STREE 2’ TICKET SALES ARE ON 🔥🔥🔥… The film industry can finally breathe a sigh of relief… #Stree2 is poised for a sensational start at the #BO… The pre-sales – which are growing rapidly by the hour – indicate a #Blockbuster start for this horror-comedy.” He further noted, “Conversely, advance bookings for the other two #IndependenceDay releases – #KhelKhelMein and #Vedaa – are currently sluggish… Nevertheless, there remains hope that sales will gain momentum before the films hit cinemas.”
According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, Stree 2 is projected to outpace the advance bookings of Hrithik Roshan’s Fighter by Monday night and potentially surpass Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki by Tuesday evening. The film is also anticipated to eclipse the advance sales of Brahmastra and Tiger 3, both of which surpassed 300,000 tickets, by Wednesday night. Given the current booking trends, Stree 2’s box office trajectory appears promising. The original Stree was a phenomenal success, grossing Rs 180 crore against a budget of Rs 25 crore and spearheading Maddock Films’ Supernatural Universe with subsequent hits like Bhediya and Munjya. Directed by Amar Kaushik, who also directed Bhediya and Stree, Stree 2 seems poised to continue this successful streak.
