Nadal’s Olympic preparations as he secures a victory against Cameron Norrie. Stay updated on Nadal’s journey to the Tokyo Olympics.

Rafael Nadal’s trajectory toward the Olympics advanced with a formidable straight-set triumph over Britain’s Cameron Norrie in the second round of the Swedish Open. Nadal, aged 38, vanquished the fifth seed in Bastad with a scoreline of 6-4, 6-4, thus earning a place in the quarter-finals against Argentina’s Mariano Navone. The Spaniard eschewed Wimbledon to concentrate on the forthcoming Olympics in Paris this summer, where he intends to compete in both singles and doubles alongside Carlos Alcaraz. Nadal, who is slated to participate in the doubles semi-final with Casper Ruud on Saturday, secured a break against Norrie in the first set to seize the lead.

After necessitating medical attention for his arm following a significant fall at the commencement of the second set, Nadal experienced a break by an increasingly assertive Norrie. Nevertheless, Nadal, trailing 4-1, astonishingly surged back, claiming five consecutive games to secure his place in the last eight with his most outstanding performance of the season thus far.

“Exhilarating sensations; it’s been an extensive hiatus since competing on the Tour post-Roland Garros, and I had the opportunity to challenge a formidable adversary like Cameron,” Nadal remarked. “It’s integral to the odyssey today. My competitive appearances have been sparse, so encounters like today’s are invaluable, and maintaining relentless pressure on the opponent throughout the match is an area I need to enhance due to my limited playtime.”
